Employment With Corporates

I have become qualified Company Secretary in 1985 after an initial training with Ashok Leyland Limited, Chennai, India followed by mandatory training in the same city with the Government of India Office of Registrar of Companies.

1.Hindustan Newsprint Limited as Assistant Company Secretary -1985-1987

My first footing as a qualified Company Secretary was to join this gaint public sector undertaking [A subsidiary of Hindustan Paper Corporation ] located near Piravam Road Railway Station in between Ernakulam and Kottaayam cities in Kerala State in India. This Company has a state of art facility to manufacture raw paper rolls for News Paper printing firms www.hnlonline.com

Fulfillment:

♦ Worked as Assistant Company Secretary reporting to the Deputy General Manager [ Costing] and Company Secretary. Enriched with public sector style of working, Company Secretarial work in addition to costing assignments.

♦ Stayed in Company provided accommodation [ Quarters ] in the Company Townhip and took active part in HNL Officers Association as well as Telugu Association.

♦ Learnt local language Malayalam speaking, reading and writing

♦ Enjoyed Township life with wife and infant daughter for about two years. Though Language was a barrier, we had memorable experience using township facilities like Canteen, Officers Club in addition to having a very good company of like minded people, visiting temples & places of interest in Kerala, enjoying beautiful climate particularly rainy season, hosting relatives including my parents for short duration and Malayalam movies.

♦ As an employee, I was privileged to receive jumbo size carpets pieces cut out of big sized woven mesh conveyor belt [ Also called as Felt ] to create a continuous paper web on a  paper making machine) used for certain days, removed and disposed as scrap.

​2.Andhra Pradesh Tannaries Limited as Company Secretary – cum- Administration Manager -1987-1991

 

Entered the private sector Leather manufacturing industry near Vizianagaram town in north Andhra Pradesh State. This was a Public Limited Company set up as a Joint venture Company with Andhra Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation.

 

Fulfillment:

♦ Worked as Company Secretary-cum- Administration Manager reporting to the Chairman and Managing Director.

♦Took some time to adjust to the style of private sector working

♦ Had an opportunity to hold full fledged Board Meetings independently in addition to Company Secretarial work

♦ I was also responsible for Office and Factory Administrative related work.? assignments

♦ Stayed in Company provided accommodation and other perquisites

         ♦ Introduced an outsourced computerized system for salary disbursements

♦ Launched modern inventory system for Central stores

♦ Got appreciation from Employees as I was the first Executive worked in the Company for three years against normal practice of maximum one year service due to management victimization.

 

GVK Hotels Limited as Company Secretary -1991-1996

My desire was to work in a professionally managed Listed Company. I was selected as whole time Company Secretary of GVK Hotels Limited which was on of the GVK group companies headed by Shri G V Krishna Reddy as the GVK group companies chairman in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh State [ Now Telangana State ].

 

Fulfillment:

♦With more time Worked as Company Secretary reporting to the Managing Director of the Company which owned The Krishna Oberoi, the Five star deluxe Hotel in post Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

♦Had an opportunity to head the secretarial department independently in addition to assisting the other group Companies Public issue and secretarial matters.
♦Formed and Incorporated a separate Company "GVK Industries Limited" to take off first private sector gas based Power Project. I took pride in taking active role in acquiring land by the Company for this project in Jegurupadu, Near Rajahmundry, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. I was chief co-coordinator and master of ceremony for this project bhoomi puja [ Foundation ceremony ] which was graced by the then Chief Minister of the State Sri Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy. I had the opportunity to work with District Collector, Revenue Department, Police Department and other government machinery from planning to successfully completing the public meeting which was estimated to have attended by ten thousand people.
♦Computerized all the activities of the Secretarial Department.
♦Company Management and shareholders well appreciated for the procedures adopted be it for registration or passing resolutions or taking care of Shareholders / Proxies during all the eight times successfully conducted Shareholders meetings [ Annual General Meetings + Special General Meetings ]  in an organized way duly assisted by Student Company Secretaries as Volunteers who in turn received Certificates of appreciation presented by the Company Managing Director.
