A Fitting Tribute: Mr. VS Sarma Retires from ICSI
As a long-standing member of the Hyderabad Chapter of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), I had the distinct honor of witnessing firsthand the remarkable career of Mr. VS Sarma. His recent retirement after a distinguished 33-year tenure at ICSI calls for a heartfelt farewell and a celebration of his invaluable contributions.
Mr. Sarma's name is synonymous with dedication, composure, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. He tackled any assignment with unwavering commitment, setting a high bar for all of us.
His meticulous attention to detail was particularly evident in the organization of training programs. As a veteran trainer myself, I was consistently impressed by his ability to ensure flawless administrative arrangements, from securing the best faculty to guaranteeing timely disbursement of honorariums. This meticulous planning, coupled with his calm and approachable demeanor, fostered a highly conducive learning environment appreciated by students and attendees alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Sarma's warmth and humility endeared him to everyone he encountered. His infectious smile and easygoing nature fostered a spirit of collaboration and positivity within the workplace.
The Hyderabad Chapter owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Mr. Sarma. His instrumental role in leading the Chapter to multiple "Best Chapter in India" accolades stands as a testament to his tireless efforts. He consistently went above and beyond, extending his work hours to ensure the success of numerous initiatives, including building renovations, student services, Foundation Day celebrations, and countless career events, seminars, and workshops.
Mr. Sarma's journey began in 1991 at ICSI headquarters in New Delhi, followed by a successful stint in Hyderabad after transfer and promotion. He culminated his career as the Deputy Director of the Center for Corporate Governance, Research and Training (CCGRT), an esteemed arm of ICSI. It's interesting to note that he chose to attend his retirement ceremony at the ICSI head office, which I was fortunate to witness virtually through a private Zoom link.
The ceremony featured heartfelt speeches from Mr. Sarma's colleagues, family members, and a powerful retirement address from himself. While one might expect a sentimental farewell speech, Mr. Sarma's message took a unique turn. He traced his career path, from his initial days at ICSI to navigating various leadership styles and balancing work-life commitments. His narration of his 33-year journey was truly captivating, offering a valuable message about dedication, sincerity, and the potential for a long and fulfilling career within a single organization.
While I feel a pang of sadness at Mr. Sarma's retirement from services of ICSI, I am also filled with joy as he embarks on a new chapter. I wish him a long, happy, and fulfilling retirement. You will be deeply missed, Mr. Sarma, but your legacy of dedication and excellence will continue to inspire us all.
Thank you, Mr. Sarma, for your invaluable contributions to ICSI.
Congratulations on your retirement!
